CDC’s “Metal-Clad Switchgear” is “Metal-Enclosed Power Switchgear” that is characterized by the following features that are above the features of “Metal-Enclosed Power Switchgear”:

1. The main interrupting device is draw-out with mechanism for moving it between connected and disconnected positions, including self-aligning and self-coupling primary and secondary disconnecting devices.
2. Major parts of the primary circuit are completely enclosed by grounded metal barriers with no intentional openings between compartments.
3. All live parts are enclosed within grounded metal compartments.
4. Automatic shutters cover primary circuit components when removable element is in the disconnected, test, or removed position. 5. Primary bus conductors and connections are insulated throughout.
6. Mechanical interlocks are provided for proper operation sequence, under normal operating conditions, and ensure matching ampacities between cell and breaker.
7. Instrument, relay, and control compartments are isolated by grounded metal barriers from all primary circuit elements with the exception of short lengths of wire such as at instrument transformer terminals. Circuit breaker doors may be used for (or access to) instrument, relay, and control.
